Monica Slaughter
Monica Slaughter has wanted to serve her community in a law enforcement role from a young age. She is a graduate of Drake University with degrees in political science and pre-law and Drake University Law School, where she earned her Juris Doctorate. Monica started her career in the Washington County Attorney’s Office but has been working as an Assistant Linn County Attorney since 2014, prosecuting felony level offenses for the community.
With increasing distrust in law enforcement among members of the Black community, Monica is actively part of needed change. She is a certified instructor for the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy and teaches classes on OWIs, domestic abuse, testifying in court, and search and seizure to local law enforcement. She is dedicated to crime prevention and community engagement at a grassroots level. She also serves on the boards for Thrive Together (formerly Deaf Iowan’s Against Abuse) and Go the Distance.
Monica was born and raised in Des Moines and now lives in Cedar Rapids with her husband and son.
